Preparation
We don’t wish to tell you how or when to pack but here are some thoughts on preparation which may be helpful:
Start collecting boxes early. An easy way to store cartons so they don't take up storage space is to open both ends and flatten them out. The boxes can be re-sealed with tape as you use them. Start packing early. Begin in areas where the goods are not in frequent use such as the cellar, attic, garage, closed shelves, etc.
Pack on a room-by-room basis and make sure all boxes are properly labeled with contents and room location where they will be unpacked (such as kitchen, master bedroom, family room, drawing room etc.). If you wish us to place items in the correct rooms please provide a numbered list and diagram of the layout of property ie box number 1,2,3,4,5 - Bedroom 1…..Boxes 6,7,8 – Kitchen etc.
Consider purchasing some specialized boxes for items such Mirrors, pictures and tall items such as table lamps. Utilize wardrobe boxes if you wish clothes to travel hung. This will save you the trouble and expense of having your garments cleaned and pressed later. For mattresses we will provide special plastic sleeves.
Make sure that drawer contents are not too heavy because too much weight can cause damage to the drawer during transport. We may also need to remove the drawers to load the unit.
Small, heavy articles like books should be packed in smaller boxes.
Bulkier but not-so-heavy articles such as pots, pans, linens, and small kitchen
appliances can go in somewhat larger boxes. Very bulky, lightweight articles
such as blankets, pillows, toys, large lamp shades, and shoes go in the largest
boxes. Lamp shades need to be very carefully packed
Pack heavier items on the bottom of the box, lighter items on the top. Avoid over packing cartons.
Do not pack any flammables, combustibles or explosives. Do not pack coins, currency, valuable papers, jewelry or other important items. Please carry them with you instead. Make sure all boxes have lids and secure them with tape after closing.
